YEAH! The wedding quilt has been delivered. This turned out to be a fun, family affair. My mom and dad, hubby, son and daughter all contributed with layout, pressing, trimming. Idaho Beauty from the More Nickel Quilts book. Luscious Leaves Panto. Turned out pretty good.

Next post will be my daughter's Prairie Girl costume for Halloween. The bonnet turned out so darn cute. The dress is coming along. The pinafore will finish off the ensemble.

In the reading world I have finally succumbed to the Stieg Larsson phenomenon. I'm half way through the first book and having a hard time putting it down. Hubby is just getting rolling on book 2, so I will have to find something in between.

Have a great, sunshiny day!

I have been sewing up a storm, working on a Nickel Quilt for a friends daughter's wedding. Haven't taken any pictures of the in process work, but my DAD and MOM, who have never quilted or shown any interest, helped trim blocks, press and layout. I have mixed feelings about giving up this quilt that everyone has pitched in to help make. Maybe I can get them to help with one for me.

On another note, I found a new author, very similar style to two of my other favorites to read quilty, crafty stories by. Marie Bostwick, "A Single Thread" is the first in a series based in New Bern, CT. If you like Jennifer Chiaverini or Kate Jacobs, give it a try.

Long overdue, the sampler I took 10 years to complete is beautifully framed by a place in Chelmsford, MA "Picture Yourself" and hanging in the hallway. I am so pleased with how it came out.And now for another goal accomplished....

Yes, I have met one of my 2010 goals - I have finished organizing all of MY scraps. I have various sizes of little pieces, then some strips. I do still have a bag and two small boxes of scraps donated to me by well meaning friends, but I'm not feeling obligated to organize those. When I need a piece I just go fishing. I'm cutting up 5" squares for a nickel quilt and have taken scraps from those two place. I will have to supplement some lights out of my stash, but I think I'll have enough for all of the darks - Yippee, the piles are shrinking.

Here's the second runner - I have to say I love the colors of this one.

On a different note, I haven't exactly kept you posted on the books I've been reading. The latest is "Under the Dome" by Stephen King. I am not a big fan in general (too creepy), but 150 pages into this 1066 page tome, I am really loving it. Kinda has that "Jericho" feel to it. Not the most user friendly to read in bed at night. Hubby says it's definitely a Kindle book, but a friend loaned it to me, plus my eyes have a hard time adjusting to the Kindle print, not sure why.

Have a great day!

I have spent some time organizing scraps, will have to take a picture of all the little pieces all cut up. I had to make a couple teacher's gifts and was able to use some of those scraps for the stars. This pattern came from the same book as my daughters "Lessons From Mama" quilt and it made up very quickly. I have another one done, still the label to sew on. I've started one of my Christmas gifts for a friend, no showing that one, just in case she checks.

Here is my latest finish, but started after January, so doesn't count towards my goal of 5 UFO's.
A childhood friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in November, and I really wanted to do something...so little you can do. I thought this would reminder her of hugs and prayers on her healing journey. The pattern is Bricks and Stepping Stones from Bonnie Hunter at www.quiltville.com. Thanks Bonnie, for providing the inspiration.

I'm going back down to work on some more scrap organization, I've been chipping away at it.

Happy Day to you all.

PS Reading a great book right now called "The Help". Having a hard time choosing between reading, cross stitch and quilt.....

I needed to get a baby quilt off in quick order for my sister-in-laws first grandbaby. I remembered seeing Liza Prior Lucy and Kaffe Fassett's Buttercream Icing quilt in Quilter's Newsletter (#410-June/July 2009) and thought I could quickly modify this to a baby size. All in all, I think it came out pretty good and I used almost all staff fabrics, plus some of my little scraps.
